The Johnson County Affordable Housing Coalition is a member-driven organization. Member dues fuel our work in the community.
Some members choose to be more involved--joining our action teams, seeking more information through our monthly community meetings, advocating for specific housing policies, attending city council meeting to speak up for affordable housing, inviting the Coalition to speak at their places of worship, service clubs, workplaces.
Part of our work as a coalition is to help each person find their role in creating fair housing opportunities across the community. We need YOU!
Membership is open to any individual or organization. We have a sliding scale membership fee so that all are able to join. Show your support for affordable housing by becoming a member today!
In order for housing to be “affordable,” a household should be spending no more than 30% of total monthly income on housing-related costs.
We use the term cost-burdened to describe when a household spends more than 30% of income on housing.
When our housing costs rise above 30%, we cannot afford other basic needs, such as healthcare, food, and similar necessities.
In Johnson County, 18% of homeowners and 61% of renters are cost-burdened by their housing.
