Out of Reach 2020 Report Released

The 2020 Out of Reach report has been released. The annual report, compiled by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, compares local wages with the cost of basic housing. This year's report finds that a minimum wage worker in Johnson County, Iowa, would have to work 108 hours each week in order to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment. This data confirms what low-wage workers, single heads of household, and other people with limited income have been saying for a long time: there is not enough housing available to meet our community need. When workers can't find available, affordable housing, our entire community suffers. And no one should have to work almost three full-time jobs in order to keep a roof over their head.
